Pairs Competition Winners [L to R]
Maryel F (Lead), Sandy D (Skip)
The Club Pairs Competition was played on the bitterly cold evening of Wednesday 22nd December at Greenacres.  The Pairs game is just like a conventional game, except that, as the name implies, there are only 2 players per team.  So the lead player has to deliver and sweep his / her own 4 stones per end, while his / her team-mate skips and joins in the sweeping too.  The positions are then reversed, with the skip delivering and sweeping his / her stones, while the lead player is acting skip.  It's hard work for both players!

6 two-person teams each played 2 four-end games during the 6:15 p.m. session.

In the first round of games, there were victories for Sandy D's team over Sheila D's team by 5 - 4, and

Pairs Trophy (2)

for Paul R's team over Kenneth G's team by 6 - 1.  The remaining first round match between Bob B and David H was 'peeled' 3 - 3.In the second round of games, Sandy's team carried on their winning ways against Kenneth's team, this time defeating their opponents by 5 - 1.  David's team beat Sheila's team 2 - 1, and Paul's and Bob's teams peeled 2 - 2.

So Sandy's team won the overall competition on 4 points, being the only team to win both of their games.
